Rocky Ryon
Barrera
January 28, 2025 – March 15, 2026
Rocky,
Beloved son of Fidel and Shelby
Rocky was born in early January 2025. Just days after birth, he was diagnosed with congenital heart disease, including Truncus Arteriosus and DiGeorge syndrome. He was urgently flown by helicopter from Memorial Hospital to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where he would spend his entire life surrounded by dedicated care. From the beginning, Rocky proved to be a fighter. He underwent multiple heart surgeries, including valve replacements, a tracheostomy, and G/J tube placement. Between operations, his family stayed at Ronald McDonald House Charities, always planning and preparing for his homecoming. They adjusted his room, completed medical certifications for his complex care, and stood by him through every challenge.
Rocky was a beautiful boy with a light complexion and curly brown-blondish hair. He was curious and expressive, lighting up when being read to or watching his mobile spin. His favorite books were Love in the Wild and You're My Little Dragon. When he wasn't listening to stories, he was playing loudly and joyfully with his toys — especially his maracas, xylophone, and stuffed animals. He loved the movies Moana and Encanto. Even in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Rocky quickly became a favorite among the medical staff. His family treasures a pair of boxing gloves signed by his entire care team — a symbol of the warrior spirit he showed every day. Though his time on earth was far too short, Rocky taught everyone around him about courage, love, and the beauty found in small moments. He is survived by his loving parents Fidel and Shelby, his big brother Oliver, grandparents, and extended family. A private funeral service will be held. Instead of flowers, donations may be made in Rocky's memory to Children's Hospital Los Angeles or The Compassionate Friends. Rocky, our curious, joyful, loud little boy — you fought so bravely with your boxing gloves on. We will carry your light, your maracas, and your stories with us always. You are loved beyond measure, today, tomorrow, and forever.
