Robert Lee
Smith
December 31, 1955 – March 24, 2025
Robert Lee Smith was born on New Year's Eve, 1955. He was the eldest child of Robert Lee and Georgia Mae Smith. He spent his earliest years with his parents in Los Angeles, and after their divorce, his mother returned to her hometown of Delano, California, with him and his siblings in tow.
They were one of the very first families to move onto "Thomas Way," where they lived for over twenty years. During that time, Robert's talents with his hands began to shine. He could fix anything — and his family, friends, and neighbors knew it. He would spend hours bumping old-school jams while fixing cars in his mom's front yard.
Robert was the man. Everybody has a story about him — whether it's the blue Nissan pickup with the loud music and hydraulics, or him popping wheelies on his lowriders.
As an adult, he worked for several years in grape packaging at Styrotec, and later as a foreman at Giumarra Farms. An accident at work led to an early medical retirement, but although life dealt its share of ups and downs, he faced every challenge with courage and humor.
Robert had a magnetic personality, a love for people, and a laugh that could fill any room. He adored his children, Bryan and Melissa, and had a special love for all five of his grandchildren.
Robert will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. He lived 69 impactful years, filled with unforgettable memories, and is now reunited with his beloved mother.
