Obituary

Michael Dennis Gregory, known affectionately as Mike to his friends, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, in Bakersfield, California. Born on May 26, 1946, in the bustling city of Detroit, Michigan, Mike's life was a tapestry of dedication, laughter, and unwavering love for his family. His journey on earth concluded at the age of 79, following complications from acute respiratory failure, congestive heart failure, and end-stage renal disease.

Mike was the son of the late Marshall and Sophie Gregory, and a caring brother to his predeceased siblings, John and Marcia Gregory. His legacy continues through his beloved wife of 54 years, Gingu Gregory, his daughter Donna Ludington, his son-in-law Clayton Ludington, and his adored grandson, Duke Ludington, who brought immense joy to his later years.

An alumnus with a Bachelor's in Accounting, Mike's professional life was marked by precision and integrity. His meticulous nature served him well in his career and was only matched by his commitment as a proud veteran of the Army, where he served his country with honor and distinction.

Mike's personal life was filled with the simple pleasures of cheering on his favorite MLB and NFL teams, a pastime that reflected his passionate and team-spirited nature. He was the heartbeat of his family, a man who could effortlessly light up the room with his humor and whose selflessness knew no bounds. Mike's ability to balance the books was only surpassed by his innate ability to balance the needs and happiness of those he loved.

Those who knew Mike would describe him as loving, funny, and selfless—a man who embodied the essence of family and friendship. His laughter was infectious, his advice priceless, and his presence a comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

As we bid farewell to a man of great character, we are reminded of the words of the great poet, Rumi, "Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul, there is no such thing as separation." Mike's spirit and love remain with us, not bound by the physical world, but carried in the hearts and memories of his family and friends.

We honor the life of a man who was the pillar of his family and a source of joy and generosity to everyone around him. Mike's story is one of a life well-lived, filled with moments of triumph, laughter, and an abundance of love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a man who made the world a brighter place simply by being in it.

Sincerely always,

Donna Ludington
