Obituary

Marquita Evon Berry , 42, passed away on October 6, 2025, in Bakersfield, California. She was born on December 30, 1982, also in Bakersfield, where she spent her entire life rooted in the community that shaped her — and to which she gave so much in return. Marquita, affectionately known as "Quita" or "Thirt", was a spirited and devoted woman whose energy and love left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her vibrant personality lit up every room she entered, and her unwavering dedication to those she cared about was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a proud member of IBEW Local 428, where she earned the respect of her peers through hard work and commitment. In addition to her time with the union, Marquita also worked at Denny's as a beloved server. Her warmth and charisma made her a favorite among co-workers and customers alike. Above all else, Marquita's greatest joy came from being a mother to her four sons — LeRone, Leaunte, Leandre, and Royal — who were the center of her world. She poured her heart into raising them with strength and love, always putting their needs above her own. Her devotion to them was unmatched and remains one of the most enduring parts of her legacy. Marquita is survived by a large and loving family: her father Franklin; stepfather Carl Sr.; sisters Geneva, Brandy, Zariah, and Karla; brothers Tyrone, Karl Jr., Kristopher, Willie, Leonard, and Mannie; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and extended family members who will continue to cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her mother Claudette; grandmothers Katie and Claudette; grandfather Henry; and brothers Brandon and Kory. Marquita's life will be honored, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched with her kindness, laughter, and fierce loyalty. May her spirit continue to inspire strength and unity among those who loved her.
