Edith Karen
Mena
April 20, 1954 – June 28, 2025
Edith Mena was born in Russell, Arkansas, on April 20, 1954. She went home to be with her husband and son on June 28, 2025. She was 71 years old.
Edith grew up in Lamont with her parents, Ruby and Vernon Crain. She was an active member of the Living Waters Assembly of God, attending its tiny original church on Paradise Street before the new church was built on Collison Avenue fifty-seven years ago.
Edith's world revolved around her family. She married at the age of 18 and gave birth to her son, Kevin Sims, a year later. She was married to Larry Mena for twenty-seven years. Both Kevin and his stepfather passed away in 2022.
Edith brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. She was tiny and feisty and loved by those who called her Aunt Edy, sister, neighbor, friend. She spent holidays with three separate families who loved her dearly. She rode mechanical bulls at Sunday family bbqs, albeit at a very slow speed, attended high school band competitions for her adopted nephew, and stood still when her adopted niece smashed a confetti egg on her head. Edith and her sister-in-law Jeannie knew and loved each other for fifty-four years. Jeannie's granddaughter, Lily, was the light of Edith's life.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Mena; her son, Kevin Sims; and her parents, Vernon and Ruby Crain. She is survived by her brothers, Jerry Crain and Glen Crain (wife, Jennie), and her sister, Donna Nighbert (husband, Ted); her in-laws, Joyce Sparks, Junior and Anna Sims, and Randy and Jeannie Bibee; her nephew, Travis (wife, Jennifer), and her grandniece, Lily. Her adopted families are Jed, Jennifer, Ethan, and Lynda Scott and Rosie, Pedro, Josue, Isaac, and Leah Sosa. She will be missed by many nephews, nieces, and friends who loved her.
Viewing and celebration of life services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Living Waters Assembly of God in Lamont. Viewing begins at 8 am with the service at 9 am. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the local animal shelter.
